When I was a little girl I dreamed about the day I would one day find the man of my dreams.

I used to pretend I was getting married and I would make up names for all the children that would one day follow that blissful day. I loved the idea of getting married and living happy ever after in a house with a picket fence and beautiful flowers growing around my house.

And here it is 16 years after the day I said "till we are parted by death"......

I don't think it takes an expert to tell you that if you are in a relationship for over 18 years there will be days.....

Jus' sayin'

Don't we look so unassuming??

But there are many more days when I am so very happy. Not because I married the perfect man or that my guy married the perfect gal but that we are in this thing for the long haul. He told me that just 3 days ago....Rose, I want you to know I am committed to you. Those words have meant so much to me through the years. Because long after the planning and perfect florist was picked, Long after the music and the gifts, Long after making sure that all the food was all ordered and the guest list was completed; We remember this one thing....
We Are Committed to each other.

The other details are hard to remember but I know that what I promised that day was written down on a document that I have framed on my wall. (I had his framed too so he can view it from time to time:)HA!)

The song that's playing is one of "our songs".
Love isn't someplace that you fall.....it's something that you do.

Thank you my dear friend for staying committed even when the emotion wasn't there. You are not only my husband you are my best friend. Thank you for caring for me even when I don't act care worthy.

Thank you for your love for the children you have helped me create and raise. You are a good, good man and I am so thankful to journey so closely with you!

I love you my friend~

Porch Window Project

Last week I decided it was time to give my porch its anual spring makeover....

Remember my hubs is a window guy???
Well we always have an abundance of old windows so I am always trying to think of things to do with them. One day I had an inspiration to build myself a table for the porch out of windows...
So I told him about it and he happily screwed these windows together in about a 1/2 hour! I slapped some patina paint on it and it has been sitting on my porch ever since...all seasons!

And every spring I try to remember what I put on it last year. So Since I can't remember it always changes. Which is fine with me because that gives me new projects to do!

I got this idea
to use some on sale fabric that I bought for about 75cents. Add a short piece of this ribbon and the letter Y~

Mix it together with an old window and glue the fabric to the back of the frame.

I spray painted the letter red. Glued the fabric to the back of the frame. Glued the Y to the front of the frame and tacked the ribbon onto the back.
And this is what I got....

The whole project cost about $4.

I Thought it would be perfect for my new spring/summer look.....

And the final look above the window table.

Time well spent

Remember how I said the little one still likes it when I come to school.
Well honestly I have never had another one of my children so interested in me coming for lunch.

I mean I would do it on their birthday's and I was room mom and have gone on many, many field trips but none of the others have had this lunch time request. It obviously speaks love to her because she frequently says,
"Mom, can you please come for lunch some day this week?"

And I know these days are going WAY to fast...So I am eating it up!

*Okay just take a moment to observe those priceless fingers and the gap in the teeth!!*
I'm gushing I know...It's just that she's my baby!

And the thing is all her friends act like they like me too! They tell me exactly what they like about what I'm wearing or how my hair is done. They ask me questions and tell me stuff about what is happening in their day.

It is so fun!

Look at those sweet sweet girls!!
Those faces are just precious!

And then I got to have a later lunch with my friend...

Sweet Carolyn....
Can you tell we are totally Cracking Up??

This is my friend who has kids slightly younger than I am. She's a good listener Plus
She gives me all kinds of good advice and I treasure her friendship!
She's a Titus 2 Friend!

As I think about the generations from my daughter and her friends to my friends who are older then I it reminds me how much I can learn from people of all ages~

I never want to forget that!

Happy first day of Spring!!

I Love....

The smell of fresh air wafting through my house.

Especially at the end of Winter!

And I Love

Having the sun shine down through my Open Window.

Oh my, I Love

The sound of birds singing through the open window...

I am partial to the sound of the turtle dove!!

I am grateful for the beauty and freshness of spring!

I don't outgrow the joy that bursts inside of me when I see that first flower making it's entrance into the world!

Spring is my favorite!

Mostly because it marks the end of Winter.
And the world seems to come to life!

The works of your hands are wonderful
I know that full well!

So You think you can paint?

Here's a little secret about me....

I love to try new things.
Especially if it includes something crafty.
Like today, I went to the store to buy myself a chipboard letter Y for another project I am working on.
I'll post pictures as I make it.

So anyway....

I see these cool canvas boards were on sale. And beside it was acrylic paint.

Very nice!

The only thing is,

I DON'T PAINT!!!.

But the weather is BEAUTIFUL and I think it messes with my head a little when it gets so nice...
I get into this frenzy.

So I decided today I think I'll make myself a picture!

I bought these very vibrant colors....

Aren't they delicious!?

And I started painting not knowing what I may end up with....

My first painting on canvas evah!!!

I know it's not a Picasso but it was

So Much fun!!

And then my family came home and told me I should sell it and they were exclaiming so much I thought I might as well just go ahead and make another one!

What a hoot!

I promised I would get more canvas for all and we will just make ourselves a little art gallery.

Micah(my loves anything art-related son) Has been dreaming about what his canvas will look like! I can't wait to see what they all come up with!

I've got a few more colors running through my head as well...

Who knows...

Painting may become my new hobby!!

Girls Room Redo

I know I told you I was going to paint the girls room and I did but I still haven't posted pictures of before and after. The girls had really outgrown the look of the purple and green. It was really looking dated. But I really didn't want to spend a lot of money So I used a can of paint that I had purchased for another project last fall.

So here is a shot of the corner of the room before.....

And after.....

And then I found these pretty little things for 50% off~

I would love to find some good priced quilts for the beds yet.

Or I may make some.

And I would like to get a dainty chandelier for the light.

Let me introduce you….

Last week Jason wanted me to go with him to visit with a family he was doing some work for.

This family was saying goodbye to a mother who had lived with Alzheimer disease for the past 6 years.

We waited in line until we reached the couple Jason knew. The man stuck out his hand to shake Jason's and then looked at me.

Jason said, "This is my wife Rose".

He introduced me to the man and his wife.

Fortunately he wasn't ashamed that I was his wife. But instead gladly took me along.

He tells me that he loves it when I'm with him, it makes him happier(sighJ).

This morning as I was reading I was reminded of that example.

Matthew 10…..

"Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in Heaven.

But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven".

And that got me to thinking…

How often do I introduce people to my best friend.

The one who not only makes me happier but has given me a gift more precious then any other gift I have ever received.

The one who gives me Hope and a Future.

The one who only invites, never forces himself on me.

The one who gives grace over and over.

The one who came to earth as a baby, lived as a human and then willingly laid his life down for me.

The one who rose on the 3rd day and knocked Satan right in the teeth!

The one who created all that we see and is preparing something even greater as I write this.

The one who cares about all people and is interested in being a best friend to all his created children.

The one who never will leave me or abandon me.

The one who will come for me someday and take me to live in a massive house.

The one who changes hearts and brings new life.

So…..

Let me introduce you to Jesus.

My life here will soon be over.

If I live to be 80 I'm already almost half gone.

But he will not.

And when I get to heaven I am looking forward to hearing him say…

"Father,

let me introduce you

to my friend Rose".

Romans...

Oh the depth of the riches of the wisdom and
Knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgements,
and his paths beyond tracing out!

The butterfly.....

The Struggle of the Butterfly
author unknown
________________________________________
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared and he sat and watched the butterfly as it struggled for several hours to force its body through the little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared it had gotten as far as it could. The man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of cocoon.
The butterfly then emerged easily, but it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would expand and be able to support the body, which would contract in time.
Neither happened! in fact, the butterfly spent its whole life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly. What the man, in kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved freedom.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through life without obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been.
And... we would never fly

Do you ever feel this way?

What should I do first?
Maybe I should think about it.......

Do over’s

Do you remember when you were a kid on the playground in the middle of a fierce match of two square when all of a sudden your opponent hit the ball too far into the corner and you couldn't retrieve it in time? You may have thought it hit the line while the opposing player was sure it did not.

Either way you call for a "do over".

For what reason?

It was simply for a second chance to relive that moment and try to make the outcome different.

Sometimes I still wish I could have "do over's".

Like the time my two oldest children were just toddler's and I was headed down main street. The light was red up ahead and so I began to let off my accelerator. At the same moment they were pleading for drinks from their "sippy cups" so I was trying to reach behind me while continuing to drive. And to my great dismay I got too close to the van beside me.

Now picture with me… This crazy lady comes creeping, like crawling speed up to the light and slowly, slowly clips your side mirror. As you look out your window the woman is looking at you with wide eyes and mouthing "I'm SO SORRY"! And then a few seconds later she backs up, only to clip your mirror a second time.

I mean that would be a good moment to say,

"Rewind"

"can I have a do over"?

Just sayin…..

Or I'm thinking about the time that wasn't quite so humorous when I was a brand new mom.

I was so tickled to have this little, teeny bundle of pink.

One day I was in a small retail store with my 2 month old baby. I was carrying her around in her car seat while she slept. I had set her down beside me while I looked at something on the rack and when I went to pick her up she went tumbling out face first. She awoke and started screaming. And I was so, so scared!

I raced straight to her pediatrician apologizing and crying the whole way there…."Oh my sweet I am so, so sorry!! Mommy was so careless! I am so terribly sorry!"

And pleading "Jesus help nothing to be permanently broken or unfixable."

I was a basket case!

And after they checked her out and assured me she should be fine and told me to just watch for these certain things, I went home.

And I promised myself I would Never, ever do something so foolish like that again.

If only I could have a redo, I thought.

If only I could have changed those few moments.

And there are countless other times when I have said things or reacted in a way that I just wish I could "do over".

People who lose someone special especially in accidents often say…."If Only I could re live those few moments maybe I could have done something different"

Don't we all wish for that at some point?

To just start again.

A fresh page, a new beginning.

In Lamentations 3:22 we are told this….

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassion (or his mercy) is new EVERY morning; great is your faithfulness!

Not some mornings, not when he's in a good mood, but EVERY morning!

He gives me a "do over" every day!

That is great news!

His grace reaches down and forgives my ignorant ways.

What a wonderful promise!

Do these guys look like they might need a "do over"?

I am so thankful for "do over's"!

Aren't you?

God is with You wherever you go

I have become keenly aware that one thing being busy all the time accomplishes is distraction.

Sometimes distraction is good.

Like if I'm trying to get a small child to quiet or trying to pass time for my children on a long trip.

Distraction has a place.

But I find when I'm using distraction as a method of coping it is not helpful.

Oh, of course it is for the short term ….

But….

Eventually I am going to have to face the thing.

The thing that wants to eat me alive.

The thing that's tearing me up.

The thing that makes me want to run as far and fast as I can.

And when I finally face it I can feel completely overwhelmed.

The Father has been softening my heart these past few weeks,

softening me to "that thing".

Have you ever heard of Andy Stanley?

He is a pastor out of Atlanta…Jason and I listen to him A LOT.

He is an anointed communicator who brings out the Word in a fresh way.

We download his pod casts.

Yesterday as I was listening to the sermon I was once again reminded that everywhere I turn God is speaking, speaking……

He asked this question….

"What would you do if you were certain God was with you?"

Ponder that for a moment.

What would I do?

In Genesis, Joseph, remember the one with the coat of many colors? Is a GREAT example of one who believed that God was with him, in the pit, in jail, and after he got his promotion to governor over all of Egypt.

He could have become bitter at God for allowing "the pit".

He could have been angry beyond belief at God for turning his back when he was accused falsely for making a move on his boss's wife.

He could have been so disillusioned with God for his silence while he spent years behind prison bars.

And when he was released and put in command....

He could have taken full advantage of his position and made his brother's pay for what they had done to him.

He chose to let God be God.

Believing that "God was with him wherever he went".

In Joshua 1:9 He tells me this, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go".

He is.

And if He is….

I can.

I am starting to see it.

And I know.

That he will

Be

Wherever I am.

The girls night

I have the honor and very significant privilege of raising these 2 young ladies.
These two are quite different but I am amazed at how they get along.
Malaina was 7 when Sophia came along and yet Malaina was thrilled to have another girl enter our family. She has always been so nurturing to her little sis making sure she's okay.
Malaina came out talking in sentences~well almost. She has an amazing mind that thinks in tremendously deep patterns. She could memorize large segments of stories from her bedtime tapes and repeat them word for word, along with expression.
By the time she was 4 she was begging me to "teach her to read". And when she started reading she never stopped. She has a very "grown up" way about her, mostly trying to be rational when things don't work out in a particular hoped way.
And then little Sophie came along....The little one, Sweet as cotton candy yet can be spunky especially when she feels like something is "unfair"..She is social, social, social, and she's not picky who with. As long as she has someone to play with she is happy. Time is her love language and we have played more games with that little girl! She loves with her whole heart!
She is sunshine on a cloudy day!

So we got to have a little "girls night" this weekend....you know, chips salsa, cokes, shopping and talking...lots of talking.

It's so fun to see how Malaina is maturing into this young woman.

I love her perspective.

I get so emotional when I think of these days being behind me.
I try not to think of Malaina getting her permit this summer~
Or that she announced to her friends in class today that I was weird. (actually that her WHOLE family was weird) HA!
I think it's probably something every mom has to face. I keep telling myself it's normal and natural.

I got that little one who still begs me to come eat lunch with her at school.
Who still thinks I know what I'm talking about.
And who still wants me to pick out her clothes..most days.

Mostly I just want these beauties to know that they are priceless! That they don't have to perform in order to have value. They don't need to be the prettiest, skinniest, smartest, funniest, richest, coolest.....
I want them to know and believe that they can be anything He asks them to be.

That's what he want's all of his little girls to realize.
We have value not because of our goodness but because of His.
Not because of our gifts but that he is the giver of those gifts. He wants us to recognize those gifts as his favor on us.
We are precious in his sight.
Believe that today~It is his truth!

catching up....

I've been trying to catch up a little bit this past month...
I mean really to me time spells friendship and I haven't felt like much of a friend this past year....

Basically I was trying to keep things together and that never is quality. So I had the opportunity to meet some friends for lunch, coffee, or in their home like this sweet friend Heather in Florida.
She and her hubs Doug had us in for dinner. J and I have been friends with them since before we were married and they are treasures to us. I love her kind listening heart. They also have 4 children and they have been in the ministry themselves so we have some common interests.

Can I tell you a secret?
I went Sepia with this picture because I couldn't get the red eye to disappear...

And then there's Brittany....She was my working buddy for the past year. We had so much fun together and to top it off we found out we are second cousins...or something like that. She is a bundle of energy and laughs. I love her enthusiasm and she keeps me young and hip.HA! Love ya Britt!
We were missing each other after a couple weeks a part...

This is my friend Heather and her sweet little girl Suzi.
Heather is the one that faithfully leaves comments on this blog...She is a wonderful lady who actually introduced me to blogging. Let me just tell you that this lady would never stop by the bank without some treat to send through the window...All my friends in the bank were so jealous over the pampering she showered on me. On top of that she is just a great friend and this was to celebrate her birthday last week.

This is my friend Shayne....She is the mother of one of Jalen's best buds. And actually we have 3 of our children in the same grades at school. We first met through Moms in touch and she has become someone I really connect with. I love her love for Jesus and her family. She is such a sweet person with a caring heart for other people!

This is my sweet friend Jana. Jana is my "old" friend. Not that she's old cause actually she's younger then me...but we go Waaaaay back. Back to camp and puberty. We know stuff about each other and that makes our bond pretty tight. I love that we can just pick up where we left off and I love how she gets my humor and I get hers. Nothing like an "old" friend.

I just had to share this about Jana yet....
She is a creative chocolate maker who, get this,
BROUGHT ME DIFFERENT CHOCOLATES TO SAMPLE!!!!!!!
JACKPOT!!!
I told her we really need to do this weekly.

Oh how I missed meetings with friends....
I still have more to catch up on...
I think it may take me a year...Love you guys!
Thanks for all you add to my life!
And I know you're reading this cause you tell me you do so just know that I'm grateful for you and love you back.

Fireworks

The fireworks were beautiful.....

Expressions....= Priceless~

We got pretty caught up......
And the wonder of it all was pretty amazing....

Laughs....

Everyone was having a great time...

Burger's and fries...

MMMM...Yummy!

Until all of a sudden...smiley boy up above got a present from the bird that was sitting on the wire up above us.
THANKS!

Thanks for NOTHIN!
M declared war on the poor bird....
He was the bird guard for the rest of the day...
Yelling anytime one got close.

We went to a pretty cool 3 D movie that had actual smell aroma and a little sprayer that gave us a mini bath when it looked like water was being dumped on us!

We went to the laugh floor of monster's inc. where Jalen ended up being picked out of the crowd. It was quite funny! This was going on 10:30 pm......

And the kids were high on Cotton Candy....

With blue tongue's.....
....and this is what the little one said about her newly acquired "horns".
"I messed with the bull and I got the horns"....

Tom Sawyer's Island

We debated if we wanted to travel across the water to Tom Sawyer's Island.....
We decided to at just the last minute and we were so glad we did.
They only keep this island open until dark and we had like 20 minutes to spare....

They had all kinds of fun little mines, tunnels and bridges....

Then of course we found the much loved fence painting episode.
Just having a little fun....

Well, then we decided to put the kids to work....
How else were we going to pay to get off the island!!

So we found the fort with all kinds of neat little passage ways and lookouts.

I decided to play a little game of my own....

WHERE'S Waldo???????

What a fun little island....
